GASTRONOMY
Viennese-style 'grand style' coffee houses: London and Oxford
The former car garage, the Wolesley on Piccadilly, London has recently re-opened as a Viennese-style coffee
house in the Grand style.
Black and cream art deco interior, high ceilings, marble tables and coffee served on silver trays
with a glass of water - albeit a microscopic serving of both.
Oxford boasts the 'klein aber fein'
Grand Cafe (High St., opp. Queen's College) with Thonet-style bentwood chairs and a range of
coffee and tea preparations, plus light meals.
Austrian 'Delicatessen'
Kipferl: a small but unique proposition in London,
a delicatessen that offers a range of fresh, sliced meats, home-baked
Austrian pastries and some imported goods. The latter include: Helmut
Sacher's coffee (250g packs, three kinds), Staud's brand pickles and
jams, biscuits and so on. Three small tables are provided and Wiener
Melange may be consumed on the premises from the 'classic' brown cups.
